Beautiful day at the loch.

The weather was beautiful as a hundred or more budding canoeists and sailors took to Kinghorn Loch for the first “Come and Try Day”, organised by Kinghorn Loch Users Group.  It might be October but a fantastic afternoon was had by all, even soaking up the sun with a picnic on the new lawns.  The youngest to take the plunge and venture out in a canoe was only 3 year old, the oldest venturers in dinghy and canoe would only admit to being great-grandparents!  John McLeod of the community council, who officially opened the day, explained “the event was a great success and everyone really enjoyed themselves.  The dinghies were permanently busy all afternoon and groups of canoes were on the go continuously.  Everyone got their chance to try out something new and others just sat and watched with their picnics”

It was of a party to celebrate the completion of the new jetty on the loch.  The jetty project was started a year ago.  In addition to counteracting the erosion of the bank,  four slip-ways have been put in place and the jetty has been finished off with recycled plastic board-walking.  It greatly assists launching and is now a lovely area just to come and enjoy, watch and feed the swans and ducks.

Ron Edwards, chair of the group, commented “We were fortunate with such good weather in October, but we were so impressed with the turnout and just how much people enjoyed the afternoon that we are going to make it an annual event.  The next one will be in mid-May next year.  See you then”.

This is a report of the “Come & Try Day” on the Loch 6 October,  2007.  This was such a success that “Come & Try” is now an annual event.

Although Come & Try Days have since been held in May 2008, May 2009 and May 2010, I make no apologies for leaving in this excellent account.

The days have been a great success, so we look forward
to seeing you in early May 2011.

The fifth Come & Try event at Kinghorn Loch, organised by Kinghorn Loch Users Group, was another success.  Despite a dull, rather cold day, the Canoe Club and Sailing Club were kept pleasantly busy all afternoon.  There were teas and hot dogs to keep everyone warm.  This year the event was extended to include displays from Kinghorn Pathways Group and the RSPB.  One volunteer from the Ecology Centre, who is an expert photographer, had a display and album of the many birds that inhabit the loch.  The Sustainable Communities Initiative (SCI) also had a member of staff circulating to tell folk about the series of Energy Saving Workshops that they are running.
