The community of Kinghorn has lost one of its greatest champions in John McLeod.  John died suddenly at his home last week and many in the community are left reeling at the shock and contemplating how much John did for them.

John’s involvement with Kinghorn spanned over many years.  He was a strong activist in helping gain a Community Centre for the town which has proved a huge success and the hub for many events and activities.  John served on the management committee of the community Centre from the beginning but he was much more than just a committee member.  Staff at the centre could always call on John’s help for small repairs, painting jobs, nothing was refused, and even re-decorating the sports hall was not too much trouble for him.  He was a well known figure at every New Year Ceilidh at the Community Centre dedicating himself to stay on the door to help out.

John was supportive of many voluntary groups within Kinghorn and could always be depended on to assist in a practical way avoiding the limelight.  He instigated many activities for youngsters and the Community Centre has a thriving youth club to prove this.

Another important part of John’s work was Chairman of Kinghorn Community Council.  He held this post for many years and was well respected by everyone.  Here too, he took an active part to progress new projects within Kinghorn.  Most recently he was involved with an upgrade for the war memorial and a viewpoint at the Pettycur steps.

Before retiring last November John was Deputy Head at Fair Isle Nursery Kirkcaldy and prior to that he served in the RAF.  His love of planes and flying remained a lifetime passion for him.   Recently John had taken on a rescue dog and regularly could be seen walking and training it on Pettycur Beach.

John will be sorely missed by many folk and the hard work that he always endeavoured to do for Kinghorn will not easily be replaced.
